SSD INFORMATION SESSIONS

Maryland Community Connection is one of five agencies in Maryland that has been awarded the Services of Short Duration (SSD) program. Services of Short Duration is a funding program specific to those in the Crisis Prevention category on DDA’S Waiting List.

MCC will be conducting free information sessions for individuals/families and providers on how to access this program, as well as providing in-depth information on what services and supports are covered by SSD. Maryland Community Connection encourages individuals that are eligible for the SSD program as well as parents or guardians to attend.

Please RSVP or request for ADA accommodations as seating is LIMITED. Walk-ins will NOT be accepted. Please call us at 301-583-8880 or 1-877-622-6688 at least one week prior to session.

DDA to host conference calls on Services of Short Duration

DDA is hosting two public moderated conference calls to provide an overview and address general questions regarding Services of Short Duration.

The calls will be conducted on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 12 p.m. The call in number for both dates is 1-888-455-9746 and the participant code is 9586102.

Maryland Community Connection teams with Barnes & Noble for Holiday Gift Wrapping

Maryland Community Connection teams with Barnes & Noble for Holiday Gift Wrapping Bowie, Maryland —
 
Maryland Community Connection has kicked off its second-annual gift-wrapping event with Barnes & Noble to support individuals with developmental disabilities in the community. Maryland Community Connection staff and participants will be wrapping gift items purchased at Barnes & Noble in Bowie Town Center located at 15455 Emerald Way, Bowie, MD 20716 on the following dates and times:  
Saturday, December 03, 2011 11:00 am – 5:00 pm  
Thursday, December 15, 2011 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Tuesday, December 20, 2011 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm  
 Donations will be accepted at the time of gift-wrapping in an effort to raise awareness about the quality services that Maryland Community Connection provides to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. These needed and necessary services continue to help the vulnerable individuals remain safe and stable in the community.

TOWN HALL MEETING

The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Coalition and The Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH) are hosting a Town Hall meeting.

This is an opportunity to hear directly from DHMH Secretary Joshua Sharfstein  and DDA Executive Director Frank Kirkland about what caused DDA  to under-spend state funds and the steps they are taking in response. Q & A will follow.

HHS Providing More than $1.7 Billion to States to Help Low-Income Households with Energy Costs
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is sending more than $1.7 billion to states to help low-income citizens with their heating and home energy costs. The money is being issued under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) block grant. LIHEAP assists qualified families with their home energy needs such as heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. Individuals interested in applying for energy assistance should contact their local/state LIHEAP agency.
