Maryland Community Connection is proud to announce that we held our our 10th Anniversary Celebration and Silent Auction on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Martin’s Crosswinds from 6:00 to 9:00 PM!  Maryland Community Connection honored the work of Maryland Community Connection participants and staff with an anniversary celebration. This celebration represented 10 years of achievement and service supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in the community.

The theme for our celebration this year was TOGETHER…We are the Community!  This theme symbolizes the relationships, opportunities, progress, connections, and changes that Maryland Community Connection and its participants have made throughout the past 10 years.  Together, we take on a variety of different roles in the community and together, we reach the tops of mountains that we never thought we could climb!

“Our goal is to achieve full inclusion for people with developmental disabilities, and participation in this event– will support us in achieving that goal.” Executive Director, André Coates states.

“It was a small, kind of grassroots operation for quite a while, ” Ms. Coates says. “It was really a gradual process whereby, through first the formalizing of our recreational program, then Supported Employment and then the addition of programs one by one, as time went along, that the agency became increasingly sophisticated. And this is really a combination of the organization’s own desire to reach out and serve more people with developmental disabilitiesin need.”

Today, Maryland Community Connectionis dedicated to enabling each person it serves to be the director of his or her own life, and to develop individualized life goals. To that end, Maryland Community Connection, as a community-based person-centered organization, is proud to offer  employment services, family and individual support services, community living arrangment serivces, low intensity support services, and an increased level of in-home service and support.

“We continue to expand the range of areas of life that we’re helping people with developmental disabilities discover,” Ms. Coates says.
